Week 1 recap: Unacceptable but at least I didn’t go 5 10. Let’s look at Super Bowl XXXIX, New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles. Former Haddon Heights star Haason Reddick led the cast, going 13th overall in Round 1 to the Arizona Cardinals. Former Paramus Catholic graduate Jabrill Peppers was next, going 25th overall in Round 1 to the Cleveland Browns. The motion filed Monday claims that a federal court lacks the jurisdiction to vacate a suspension imposed by the NFL. The motion also counters the NFLPA’s assertion that the NFL’s ruling is damaging to Elliott. District Judge Amos Mazzant said he would rule on Elliott’s request for a temporary restraining order by Friday. Lewis Bush, a Tacoma native and former San Diego linebacker who was drafted in 1993 out of Washington State, died earlier this month of a heart attack in Arizona at age 42. He’d been a member of the Chargers team that played in Super Bowl XXIX in 1995. Two other members of that team, Shawn Lee, 44, and Chris Mims, 38, also have died due to heart problems.

This is the part where we’ll remind everyone that ESPN’s deal with the NFL has been a disaster, comparatively: In exchange for $1.9 billion annually, the network gets the set in stone dregs for “Monday Night Football,” one playoff game (usually the least appealing of the wild card matchups), no Super Bowls, the right to show highlights and the draft. The amount ESPN pays by itself isn’t all that far from what the other three networks pay combined somewhere around $3.5 billion per season and they all get the Super Bowl every couple of years. NBC comes out even better: It gets the Super Bowl plus the right to more or less craft its late season schedule as it sees fit.

That certainly won’t be the same story in Week Two if Beckham takes to the field.
The biggest change for longtime viewers might be Sundays. That seemed to be addressed until the Dolphins lost four starters to season ending injuries this month, and now Miami’s executives find themselves scrambling to fill those holes.
